Unlike Fighting Fantasy, which I had played and loved in days gone by, getting this book for review was the first I had ever heard of these gamebooks so I have no nostalgic attachment to the setting or the game, nor could I really make any qualified statements about how the current game compares to the old gamebooks. The interior art is all black and white, and fairly plentiful, and seems to be a mix of a kind of detailed comic-style mingled with what appear to be computer-generated art.įrom what I understand of the deal, the Fabled Lands RPG is a game based on a series of gamebooks published in the mid-90s, presumably in the style of the "fighting fantasy" books the adventures were set in a land known as Harkuna, which is the setting of the current book.
